AIG Travel Guard (www.travelguard.com) – It’s annual MedEvac plan is designed for travelers but works for students, too. It includes both medical transportation and secondary medical insurance that pays costs not covered by members’ primary health policy.
American Express (www.americanexpress.com) – Platinum members have medical repatriation benefits; in 2007 the company upgraded its evacuation benefit to return members to a hospital near their home.
Air Ambulance Card (www.airambulancecard.com) – If you are hospitalized while traveling anywhere in the world the company agrees to fly you home to the hospital of your choice as long as a physician agrees to admit you. Individual memberships; age limit 74.
Executive Care Service (www.execcareservices.com) – Private duty nursing, concierge service, air transportation, ambulatory escort service. Types of nurses – RN. Daily fee plus travel expenses.
HTHWorldwide (www.HTHWorldwide.com) – A US-based travel insurance company helping world travelers gain access to quality healthcare services around the globe. For about $4 to $6 a day, HTH Worldwide includes medical evacuation and cashless access to its worldwide network of 4,000 English-speaking doctors and 750 hospitals.
Inn-House Doctor (www.inn-housedoctor.com) – Established in 1991, the company provides 24/7 physician services to hotel guests in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Las Vegas.
International Association for Medical Assistance (www.iamat.org) – The New York-based nonprofit has a database of English-speaking physicians in 125 countries. The network includes general practitioners and specialists as well as hospitals and clinics. Check out the organization’s Web site for useful medical information for travel.
International SOS (www.internationalsos.com) – Offers a 10-day program that includes medical assistance, evacuation, short-term insurance, and access to its 28 global alarm centers. Annual memberships available.
Medjet Assist (www.MedjetAssist.com) – Medical evacuation on demand from almost any U.S. or international destination at your request. Annual membership $225 (individual)/$350 (family). Slightly higher for individuals 75 or over. AARP discount available.
Trip Nurse (www.tripnurse.com) – Provides private duty nursing, concierge service, and air transportation. Includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants. Daily fee plus travel expenses.
World Access (www.WorldAccess.com) – A travel insurance company whose Annual Med Evac plan includes medical repatriation for three months, six months or 12 months.
