American Association of Daily Money Managers (www.aadmm.com) – Maintains a state database of daily money managers who can pay a senior’s bills, make deposits, process insurance claims, and handle other financial tasks.
Clearinghouse For Caring From a Distance (www.CFAD.org) – A private nonprofit linking caregivers with local service providers. Executive director is Nora Jean Levin, author of How to Care for Your Parents: A Practical Guide to Eldercare. Click on Links for an abundance of eldercare organizations.
Eldercare Locator (www.eldercare.gov) – The Eldercare Locator is the first step to finding essential services for older adults in any US community. Established in 1991, the Locator is a free service of the Administration on Aging (US Dept. of Health and Human Services). It is designed to help older adults, their families, and caregivers identify trustworthy local support resources, including meals, home care or transportation, or caregiver training.
Faith in Action (www.Fiavolunteers.org) – An interfaith volunteer caregiving initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Local FIA programs bring together volunteers from many faiths to help neighbors with long-term health needs, and who may need someone to run errands, get groceries, a ride to the doctor, or just a friendly visit. Users can search by state or zip code to find an FIA group in their area. The Robert Wood Johnston Foundation is the nation’s largest philanthropic group devoted to health and health care.
National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (www.caremanager.org) – Geriatric care managers are health and human services specialists who help families care for older relatives. A PGCM may be trained in any of a number of fields related to long-term care, including, but not limited to, nursing, gerontology, social work, or psychology, with a specialized focus on issues related to aging and elder care. National Association of Senior Move Managers (www.nasmm.org) — Established in 2003, NASMM is dedicated to assisting older adults and families with the physical and emotional demands of downsizing, relocating, or modifying their homes. The Web site provides a “Find a Senior Move Manager” in your area.
National Association of Social Workers (www.socialworkers.org) — The NASW maintains a national database of licensed social workers. Click on “Find a Social Worker” on the home page. Note: Geriatric social workers help older adults navigate the continuum of care from independent living to skilled nursing care. They conduct assessments of physical, financial, social, and spiritual factors to guide older adults in determining the best living arrangements for this time in their lives. In addition to providing information and referral to local resources, social workers empower clients to access services, and monitor their progress to ensure they continue to receive the help they need.
