US Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis (Autographed Letter)

A personal letter written and signed by Justice Brandeis in November, 1936, on 1 ½ pages of a four-page lettersheet from the US Supreme Court.

Background: Long before his Court appointment in 1916, Justice Brandeis practiced law in St. Louis, and this letter is to a young descendant of the Missouri attorney for whom he worked. Justice Brandeis writes...

Fifty-eight years ago, I began the practice of law in the office of your great-grandfather, and I knew both your grandfather and your grandmother before they married, and liked them much. Give your father my warm greetings, and ask him to show you the picture of our court-room on page 474 in volume three of Charles Warner’s ‘The Supreme Court in United States History.’ That court-room, which we occupied until recently, was a beautiful one and had a noble history.

The letter is marked “Personal", and the Justice signed it, “Louis D. Brandeis.”

Note: This document has marginal fold breaks, but is otherwise in very good condition. It is accompanied by an original US Supreme Court envelope addressed by Brandeis.
